ICE T - LIVE IN MONTREUX 1995
Ice T was at the height of his popularity and notoriety when this concert was recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival in the summer of 1995. The set features all his biggest hits up to then, all gaining a new dimension in a live setting which enables him to improvise freely and react with his audience. The almost two hours of bonus footage which makes up the second disc of this double DVD set features Ice T reunited with Body Count a few years back, performing at an open air festival in California as well as recording a video together in the studio. The highly-controversial recordings he made with Body Count in the nineties (particularly their notorious ‘Cop Killer’) made Ice T unofficial public enemy number one with America ’s establishment and with the F.B.I. This is truly an incredible DVD package for Ice T fans everywhere.

In 1987, along with DJs like DJ Muro, he formed the Krush Posse, which made numerous appearances as a group in late 1992 and gained him recognition by becoming the first DJ in Japan to perform with live musicians.

He released his first album "Krush", which stated his presence in the scene, and he has since released eight more. He has had recording contracts with Chance Records, Ninety Nine Records, Mo-Wax (he was the first Japanese artist to join), Apollo and Sony / Columbia. He works internationally as a producer, re-mixer, DJ and recording artist, bringing the unique flavour of Japanese hip hop to the world.

The History of DJ Krush DVD 'Ko-no-Michi' offers an epic recounting of the career of Japanese turntabalist, from his landmark first album Meiso to his 2006 world tour. Covering a number of Krush's albums in chronological order, his first DVD combines studio footage, live performances and interviews where Krush discusses his life, working with others and how he has reached the point where he is today. ..::Amon Tobin - Foley Room::..

Posted by Arnie | Posted in , , | Posted on 6:47 PM

In 1997 a fresh faced Amon Tobin released his debut album, 'Bricolage' (NJT29),on Ninja Tune. The unsuspecting public did not know what hit them. Since then Amon has continued to release forward thinking electronic music to a largely excitable fan base consisting of music critics and punters alike. 10 years on and Mr. Tobin is ready to drop his latest masterpiece, 'Foley Room', into the ether; and much like his first album, the ripples will be felt for years to come.
Over the past decade Amon has been fine tuning his production skills. With an innate understanding of the art of sampling he was able to mutate sounds scrounged from dusty vinyl into a true expression of his artistic vision. Nearly flawless in it's execution, his last official album, 'Out From Out Where' (NJT70) placed Amon at the top of his game; with a desire for new challenges.
This brings us to the 'Foley Room'. A sound proof room used to create sounds named after Jack D. Foley, a pioneer in the world of motion picture sound effects. This is where Amon spent many a night recording various toys, tools, and musicians behaving badly to get new and unique sounds to add to his palette. This was his first real step into the found sound realm of "music concret" after a decade of manipulating recorded sound exclusively, but his experiments didn't end there. Armed with vintage recording tools of the highest caliber and a helpful crew of friends he traveled far and wide in search of as many interesting recordings as possible; wildlife, insects, machinery, kitchen utensils, musical instruments and musicians were all recorded with calculated objectivity in order to then be brought in to the studio and treated simply as raw material. Everything from a rock falling to the mighty Kronos Quartet was painstakingly archived on to tape then processed and shaped into new musical forms.
The process was an interesting one, so the whole affair was filmed and a humble record of the proceedings is available as a bonus DVD with the release; narrated by Amon to help give a greater understanding of the 'Foley Room'. Jack would be proud.

..::Dj Kentaro - On the Wheels of Solid Steel::..

Posted by Arnie | Posted in , , | Posted on 6:40 PM

Previously only available in Japan, this 20 track mix from DMC World Champion DJ Kentaro is a breakneck ram-raid of the Ninja Tune back catalogue featuring material from Coldcut, Vadim, Jaga Jazzist, Pest and Vibert. Peppered sporadically by bouts of carpel-tunnel inducing scratching, Kentaro certainly knows how to juggle his decks, seamlessly mixing the smoky tones of Jaga Jazzist into the Vicks Vapour drenched 'King's Lyn' by Wagon Christ. Not the kind of 'aren't I clever' turntablist that often blights this type of thing, Kentaro prefers to let the music talk for itself, pummelling the hyper-kinetic Squarepusher mix of DJ Food's 'Scratch Yer Head' into the rear end of Coldcut's 'Border' and 'Timber'. Accompanied by a DVD shot on the Tokyo leg of the Solid Steel tour (as well as some other bits and bobs), DJ Kentaro has belligerently ransacked the Ninja Tune annals, creating a respectfully eclectic mix. Ninja chop!
